Purpose Statement: The purpose of this procedure is to guide customers and technicians through the successful conversion of an existing ONLISOFT system into a high-performance Water Softener using the RKIN Conversion Kit. This document ensures the correct sequencing of media, proper hardware installation, and accurate system configuration via the mobile application, guaranteeing optimal water treatment results.
Definition of Done: The conversion is complete when the ONLISOFT tank has been cleaned and refilled with the correct media sequence—pebbles followed by resin. The automatic controller must be securely installed and connected to both the brine tank and drain line, and the system must be programmed via the application using the designated model code.
Phase 1: Preparation and Tank Clearing
Tools Required: Wrench, screwdriver (for leverage), blue funnel (included in kit).
- Identify the Target Tank: Locate the OnliSoft, usually the second tank in the system sequence—the one installed last, right before water enters the household.
- Disconnect Water Supply: Shut off the water using the red knobs and disconnect the tank from the main water line.
- Remove Existing Hardware: Unscrew the manual head from the top of the tank.
- Extract Internal Components: Remove the white riser pipe located in the center of the tank.
- Clear and Rinse: Dump all existing resin from the tank onto the ground. Rinse both the tank interior and the white riser pipe with water to ensure they are free of any old debris.
Phase 2: Media Loading (The "Pebbles First" Rule)
- Reinsert Riser Pipe: Place the cleaned white riser pipe back into the center of the tank first.
- Protect the Riser: Cover or plug the riser pipe's top opening to prevent media from entering the tube.
- Install Funnel: Place the provided blue funnel onto the tank opening.
- Layer 1 - Underbedding: Pour the small bag containing pebbles (small rocks) into the tank first.
- Layer 2 - Ion Exchange Resin: Pour the entire large bag of Pulsion ion exchange resin into the tank, placing it on top of the pebbles.
- Finalize Tank Internals: Remove the blue funnel and uncover the top of the white riser pipe.
Phase 3: Hardware Installation and Plumbing
- Attach Controller Head: Screw the new automatic controller onto the tank. Ensure the yellow funnel-shaped cone is attached to the bottom of the controller before installation.
- Secure the Head: Use a screwdriver in the port for leverage to get the head snug and tight, but avoid over-tightening to prevent damage.
- Connect Bypass Valve: Attach the bypass valve with the blue knobs to the back of the controller.
- Rejoin Water Line: Reconnect the system to the main household water line using the provided 90-degree elbows.
- Connect Brine (Salt) Tank: Connect the small tubing from the right-hand side of the controller to the inside of the black salt tank.
- Install Drain Line: Attach the larger hose to the elbow barb on the left-hand side of the controller and route it to a drainage point.
Phase 4: System Start-up and Programming
- Add Salt: Fill the brine tank with salt. It is recommended to check and refill it monthly or keep it at least half full.
- App Setup: Download the specific RKIN application as directed by the instructional video available here.
- Program Settings: Access the programming screens in the app and enter the system size code:
- 24 for WS8, 1-3 bathroom size with 8x44 tank size.
- Brine refill: 6
- 32 for WS9, 1-3 bathroom size with 9x48 tank size.
- Brine refill: 8
- 48 for WS10, 4+ bathroom size with 9x48 tank size.
- Brine refill: 10
- 24 for WS8, 1-3 bathroom size with 8x44 tank size.
- Initial Cycle: Follow the app prompts to start the system; it will fill the tank slowly to reduce the possibility of damage.
4. Completion Checklist:
- [ ] Olisoft Tank (usually last in sequence) was identified and disconnected.
- [ ] Old resin dumped and tank/riser pipe rinsed.
- [ ] Riser pipe reinserted and top opening protected during loading.
- [ ] Pebbles (small rocks) are loaded before the resin.
- [ ] An automatic controller was installed with the yellow cone attached.
- [ ] The brine line is connected to the right port, and salt is added to the bin.
- [ ] Drain line connected to the left port and routed to drainage.
- [ ] Water hardness, system size, and brine refill are programmed in the mobile app.
