How to Clean and Rejuvenate Your Well Water Filter with Chlorine (Without CBS Sediment Filter System)

Purpose Statement: The purpose of this guide is to provide a step-by-step technical procedure for running chlorine through the media bed of a well water filtration system. This process is designed to clean out organic buildup, disinfect the system, and rejuvenate the filtration media to maintain optimal water quality and flow rates.

Definition of Done: The rejuvenation is complete when the system has successfully drawn a full gallon of unscented chlorine, undergone a thorough rapid rinse cycle to flush out residues, and has been reset to its operational state with a restored air bubble.

Step 1. System Preparation and Access

  1. Locate the well filter tank.
  2. If the tank has a neoprene "jacket," unzip it from the back and pull it down to expose the valve head and the breather tube connection.
  3. Locate the breather tube (air intake) on the side of the valve head. Gently pull it forward and flip it around so the intake port is accessible.
Step 2. Chlorine Intake Setup

Tools Required: 1 Gallon of Unscented Chlorine (Bleach), 3–4 feet of 1/4-inch tubing.

  1. Note: Use ONLY unscented chlorine. Scented products can leave a persistent, unpleasant odor in the water supply.
  2. Insert one end of the 1/4-inch tubing into the breather tube intake port on the valve head. Ensure a tight fit to prevent suction loss.
Step 3. Digital Cycle Management

Tools Required: "Legacy View" App (iOS or Android), Tablet or Smartphone.
Logins: System-specific Bluetooth/Wi-Fi credentials as configured during installation.

  1. Open the Legacy View app and connect to the "Aeration Filter."
  2. Navigate to Advanced Settings > Cycle Position Times.
  3. Select Regenerate Now and confirm.
  4. Cycle 1 (Decompress): Allow the full 90 seconds to run to release internal air pressure.
  5. Cycle 2 (Air Release): Wait for the system to find "Home."
  6. Cycle 3 (Backwash): This can be skipped if time is limited, though running it is beneficial.
  7. Cycle 5 (Air Draw/Chlorine Draw): This is the critical step. The system will begin sucking the chlorine. Wait 5–10 minutes until the gallon is empty.
Step 4. Flushing and System Reset
  1. Cycle 6 (Rapid Rinse): Do NOT skip this. This cycle flushes the chlorine out of the media and the lines.
  2. Once the rinse is finished, disconnect the 1/4-inch tubing from the valve head.
  3. Reset the breather tube to its original position.
  4. Run a second full Regeneration Cycle via the app without the chlorine tube attached. This allows the system to draw in fresh air and recreate the necessary internal air bubble for standard operation.
  5. Re-zip the tank jacket.
