When Should I Replace My ZIP Countertop Water Filter Cartridges?

Keeping up with filter changes is the single best thing you can do to keep your Zero Installation Purifier running well and your water tasting great. Here is the recommended replacement schedule:

Watch how to replace your ZIP filters:

Every 6–12 Months

  • FT-82 Sediment and Carbon Pre-Filter — This is the first line of defense. It catches sediment and chlorine before water reaches the RO membrane. Replace closer to 6 months on well water or high-sediment sources, or up to 12 months on municipal water supply.
  • FT-92 Carbon Block Pre-Filter — The second pre-filter. Removes chlorine and other disinfection by-products to protect the RO membrane and extend its lifespan. Same replacement schedule as the FT-82.
  • AlcaPure or OnliPure Post-Filter — The final stage after the membrane. The AlcaPure version adds beneficial Calcium and Magnesium minerals back for a slightly alkaline pH. The OnliPure version reduces TDS to near zero for lab-grade purity.

Every 12–24 Months

  • 75 GPD Reverse Osmosis Membrane — The membrane does the heavy lifting, removing up to 99% of dissolved contaminants. With normal use and on-time pre-filter changes, it can last up to 2 years. If you notice lower water output or rising TDS readings, it may be time for an early swap.

Tips to Get the Most Life Out of Your Filters

  • Empty the bottom tank after each filtration cycle instead of topping off old water. This prevents mineral buildup that can shorten membrane life.
  • If you have hard water (above ~150 ppm), consider the Anti-Scale Carbon Pre-Filter to protect the membrane from scale.
  • Store the unit away from direct sunlight to prevent algae growth in the tanks.
